Philippines Hit by Super Typhoon: Ports Halted, Airports Closed! Your Shipment May Be Delayed

Attention to freight forwarders and shippers with exports to the Philippines! Super Typhoon "Doksuri" is passing through the eastern waters of Luzon Island from July 25-26, significantly affecting the normal operations of Manila's airports and ports. Shipments to the Philippines may experience delays, so please take note!

According to the Philippine Meteorological Department, "Doksuri" reached typhoon status on the evening of July 23 and escalated to a super typhoon by the evening of July 24. The typhoon's center is located 310 kilometers east of Cagayan Province, with maximum sustained winds near the center reaching 223 kilometers per hour.

"Doksuri" is expected to bring heavy rains to multiple regions in the Philippines, with some areas receiving more than 200 millimeters of rainfall, raising the risk of flooding and landslides. Strong winds and severe sea conditions will also affect some regions, with waves as high as 3 meters. Shipping routes from China to the Philippines will likely be impacted.

In response to the typhoon, President Marcos of the Philippines announced the suspension of work and classes in several areas of Manila. Other provinces and cities have also declared suspensions due to the adverse weather.

Due to the super typhoon, operations at all four terminals of Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) may be halted until the storm passes. Airport officials have stated that closures could be extended depending on weather conditions. More than 500 international and domestic flights operated by the Philippines' three major airlines have already been affected.

Destructive winds swept across Metro Manila on the afternoon and evening of July 25, and areas north of Manila were submerged in floods. Many parts of Luzon Island face the threat of floods and landslides. Reports indicate that government offices and schools in affected areas have suspended operations. The Philippine Coast Guard has also temporarily halted commercial maritime services in certain regions.

It is currently difficult to estimate the total damage caused by this typhoon in the Philippines. However, the suspension of port operations and extensive airport delays will exacerbate Manila's already congested logistics, inevitably impacting shipment timelines.
